THE OPPORTUNITY

The Texas A&M University School of Medicine seeks to fill a full-time position as the Senior Associate Dean of Research (SADR). This is a full-time, 11 month tenured (Tenure Review Upon Hire) appointment with an anticipated start date in 2023. The Texas A&M University School of Medicine has engaged AMN Healthcare to conduct a national search for an energetic and innovative academic and executive leader to serve in this position. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Professor. Reporting to the Executive Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, the SADR will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of a comprehensive research program for the school, ensuring mission integration across the School of Medicine, Texas A&M Health, and Texas A&M University. The role is both an administrative appointment and faculty appointment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

The new Senior Associate Dean of Research will serve on the Executive Committee of the School of Medicine, which serves to assist and advise the Dean on matters of mission, resources, organization, planning, and development of the School of Medicine.

The Senior Associate Dean of Research provides leadership and coordination to help deliver strategic support to further the school’s research mission by supporting faculty and students; recruiting and retaining the highest quality research faculty; growing federal, state, and private research funding by encouraging transdisciplinary collaborations; strengthening the research infrastructure; promoting the value of research; and ensuring compliance with research standards established by the federal government, the state of Texas, Texas A&M, and The Texas A&M University System.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Initiates and maintains programs to enhance faculty and student development in the areas of teaching, research, service, scholarship, creative activity, and extramural funding.
  • Teaching in the MD and/or Medical Sciences graduate curriculum is expected. The teaching are will be dependent on the expertise of the candidate. Mentoring of graduate students in the research laboratory is also expected. Teaching assignments will be assumed in consultation with the Dean.
  • Coordinates major, large-scale research initiatives with The Texas A&M University System Office of Research, other Texas A&M University System institutions and agencies, as well as other universities, national laboratories, research institutions, and private profit and non-profit sponsors.
  • Demonstrates a deep knowledge of the federal and state research funding agencies and engages these agencies in coordination with the University and System Offices of Government Relations.
  • Prioritize efforts to provide researchers and students access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, technologies and specialized scientific services.
  • Develops strategies for long-term investment and sustainability of core research facilities.
  • Directs an externally funded research program
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • The candidate must currently direct as PI a significant extramural-supported research program in their area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record in obtaining and maintaining extramural funding and developing and leading a research program.
  • Established, collaborative relationships within the scientific community.
  • A stellar track record of leadership with skills that include prioritization, and communication (written and verbal).
  • Experience managing funds with signatory and/or budget authority.

EDUCATION

  • MD/DO, MD/PhD, MD, PhD or equivalent degree
  • Meets qualifications for Professor (Tenure Review Upon Hire)
