Description

The Department of Political Science within the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in Washington, D.C. invites applications for a full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-tenure) faculty position as an instructional assistant professor, instructional associate professor, or instructional professor. This 9-month appointment will begin in Fall 2024.

Successful applicants will teach political science courses, including within the subfield of American Politics, at the undergraduate level associated with the Public Policy Internship Program; participate in all aspects of the department’s activities and serve the profession. Applicants will be responsible for the organization, delivery, evaluation and assessment of the Political Science courses and student outcomes associated with those courses. Service responsibilities will be significant including, but not limited to, the development and supervision of internships for students in the program. 

This position will be part of a team building a new Texas A&M System-wide program. This will be a transformational education program for students from around Texas, aiming to provide them with the opportunity to learn about and experience Washington, D.C.

The Bush School of Government and Public Service was founded in 1997 under President George H. W. Bush’s philosophy that “public service is a noble calling.” Since then, the Bush School has continued to reflect that notion in curriculum, research, and student experience and has become a leading international affairs, political science, and public affairs institution.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to have a completed Ph.D. in political science. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate students. Significant experience in Washington, D.C. in a political, agency, lobbying, or non-governmental organization office or experience linking students to hands-on experiences in politics and policymaking. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
