Lecturer in Equine Science

POSITION:  The Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer with an emphasis in equine science. This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track appointment with 100% teaching responsibilities with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2025.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to provide undergraduate animal science instruction related to equine science.  The incumbent will enhance a multidisciplinary faculty, and this position in equine science will complement and extend current teaching initiatives and strengthen an already robust undergraduate curriculum within the department.  The successful candidate will develop a teaching program that includes but is not limited to, laboratory-based courses in equine handling and management. The successful applicant will have access to livestock facilities associated with the Department of Animal Science.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTSAn M.S. or a B.S. in Animal Science or a related field emphasizing equine science and the ability to teach equine handling, safety, and management are required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the equine training field.  Evidence of outstanding equine handling skills and industry engagement are required and significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field or have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.

 

Preferred experience includes but not limited to young horse development, equine behavior and problem solving, teaching the art of colt starting, Western and/or English riding instructional skills at various levels. , herd management, using horses in a ranching environment, showing in western performance disciplines a plus.
