Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position. This position has a 9-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2025 or a start date to be negotiated. Applications are especially encouraged from individuals with research efforts in cancer and/or computational bioengineering and biophysics. Candidates in other research areas that synergize with our existing strengths will be considered. Such areas include engineering for accessible health care, cardiovascular engineering, pediatric technologies, and regenerative engineering (https://engineering.tamu.edu/biomedical/research/index.html).

Hiring at the Assistant or Associate Professor level is the priority for this search; however, more senior candidates are encouraged to apply as they may find fits into other opportunities at Texas A&M.  Early-career candidates are expected to demonstrate strong potential to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program, while more experienced candidates should have a proven track record of impactful and internationally recognized research programs supported primarily through external grants and awards. More experienced candidates are also expected to have demonstrated leadership skills. The successful candidate will be required to teach; advise and mentor graduate students; participate in all aspects of the department’s activities; and serve the profession. The expectations of the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BMEN) for its faculty are to build and maintain an active and internationally prominent research in his/her chosen research area, regularly present his/her work at relevant, well-regarded forums, publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, participate on program committees and editorial boards of symposia and leading journals. They are expected to actively pursue federal grants to fund their research program, including support of graduate students. Recruitment and supervision of BMEN PhD students to completion is an expected part of contributing to the departmental research program, as is promoting, supporting, and attending departmental research-related activities. They are expected to establish a visible presence in the research and academic community. Faculty are expected to be excellent teachers at the undergraduate and graduate level, teaching core courses according to the departmental needs. S/he is expected to demonstrate leadership in curriculum development by evaluating existing courses and building new courses in their respective research area. S/he is expected to advise non-thesis graduate students as well as undergraduate students on course selection and career opportunities in biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, and their respective research areas.  Finally, it is expected that BMEN faculty will assist in recruiting high-quality faculty and students in their respective research area.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a closely-related discipline.
