The Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one full-time position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2025. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Financial Planning Program, depending on qualifications.

Established in 2014 with an academic minor in financial planning, our program has experienced significant growth over the past decade. We currently serve over 385 students enrolled across our certificate, minor, and Bachelor of Science in Financial Planning programs. All programs are registered with the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards.

This position provides the opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration. In addition to the Financial Planning Program, the Department of Agricultural Economics houses the Human Behavior Laboratory (HBL), renowned for its research on decision-making and neuroeconomics, and offers undergraduate and master’s degrees in both Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness as well as a PhD in Agricultural Economics.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

●      Develop and maintain a nationally recognized research program in financial planning, including publishing peer-reviewed research in top-tier journals.

●      Apply for external research funding.

●      Mentor junior research faculty toward publication in refereed scholarly journals.

●      Teach undergraduate courses in financial planning across face-to-face and online modalities, including core courses in the major.

●      Actively recruit, advise, mentor, and support undergraduate and graduate students throughout their academic and professional development.

●      Engage with industry partners to facilitate student opportunities such as internships, networking events, and career placements.

●      Contribute to outreach and engagement activities within the community and the financial planning profession.

●      Actively participate in financial planning program meetings, functions, and events.

●      Provide service to the department, college, and university.

●      Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

●      The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

●      A PhD or terminal degree in Personal Financial Planning, Financial Planning, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Consumer Economics, or a similar field.

●      A track record of high-quality research in financial planning, evidenced by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

●      Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with evidence of teaching effectiveness and curriculum planning.

●      The ability to teach core courses in the Personal Financial Planning curriculum.

●      Demonstrated experience in engaging with private industry or trade associations.

●      A Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) certification or a commitment to obtain the CFP® certification after hire.

Preferred Qualifications

●      Experience designing and coordinating graduate-level courses or executive education programs in financial planning.

●      Willingness and ability to engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations with scholars from other disciplines with an active interest in financial behavior.

●      Experience teaching financial planning courses within a CFP Board-registered education program
