Description

The School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) at Texas A&M University invites applications for up to three full-time, tenured/tenure - track faculty research positions at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. This is a full time, 9 - month, tenured/tenure tack appointment with a start date in the Spring of 2025.  The School of Engineering Medicine is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and adjacent to the Texas Medical Center (TMC).

The School of Engineering Medicine is the home of translational medicine, translational research and EnMed (enmed.tamu.edu), an innovative medical education program, developed in a partnership with the Texas A&M College of Engineering, Texas A&M College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist Hospital.

Successful applicants will be required to teach, advise, and mentor graduate students; teach engineering courses to medical students, maintain an independent, externally funded research program; participate in all aspects of the department's activities; and serve the profession. Research programs must be computational in scope, at the intersection of engineering and medicine, with a focus on computational biomechanics. Applicants with strong interest in collaborating with clinicians on problems of mutual interest will be preferred.

The School of Engineering Medicine's EnMed medical education program offers a blended engineering and medicine curriculum with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. EnMed is the nation's only program that allows graduates to receive both the Master of Engineering Innovation in Medicine and Doctor of Medicine degrees in four years.

Duties include:

  • Teach, advise, and mentor graduate students
  • Teach engineering courses to medical students
  • Maintain an independent, externally funded research program
  • Participate in all aspects of the department's activities
  • Conduct research in computational biomechanics, at the intersection of engineering and medicine
  • Collaborate with clinicians on mutually beneficial problems (preferred)

 

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a PhD in engineering with research experience in theoretical and computational biomechanics and evidence of an ability to maintain a sustainable research program. Applicants must have demonstrated success in teaching engineering courses to students from distinct or diverse engineering backgrounds.
