Description

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) part-time (33% FTE) Visiting Lecturer (non-tenure accruing) with a four- month academic appointment beginning Fall 2025. The College and the Dance, Music, and Theatre Performance Section seek an individual who demonstrates expertise in stagecraft and theatre technology. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated skills in stagecraft and theatre technology in classroom settings, including the ability to:

  • train and supervise student labor of varied skill levels in the use of theater technology.
  • create and maintain a safe, efficient production lab environment.
  • build scenery and props utilizing theatrical woodworking techniques and knowledge of tool safety.
  • Instruct students in the basics of scenic painting techniques.
  • Supervise students in prop construction for theatrical performance.
  • safely and efficiently suspend scenic and lighting equipment overhead.

A unique theatre degree, the Theatre BFA at Texas A&M emphasizes devising and developing new works. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level in theatre, including Introduction to Stagecraft, and other technical theatre topics depending on candidate's expertise and program needs. 

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a College within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with 100 faculty and more than 30 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The College was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. Qualifications

For appointments at Visiting Lecturer level, applicants must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in theatre-related fields, or a combination of a master's level degree in theatre-related fields and significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field. Lecturer faculty members will primarily be evaluated on teaching activity. Preference will be given to individuals with university teaching and student mentorship experience, demonstrated experience in stagecraft for theatre and/or other forms of live performance, and working knowledge of the materials and methods of scenic construction, properties, and scenic painting.
