Description

The Department of Communication and Journalism in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor specializing in communication interventions. We seek a social scientist whose research develops and evaluates interventions that address pressing social issues and generate measurable impact. The successful candidate will join our Communication & Media Science Division, a growing group of eight research faculty, with strong foundations in health communication, organizational communication, and media science. Traditional areas of communication and expertise in the societal impacts of new and emerging media. Successful candidates will be expected to publish, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and engage in service activities.

 

This is a full-time, 9-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.

Ideal candidates will be midcareer scholars with an established and growing research agenda focused on the design, testing, and evaluation of communication interventions that address pressing social issues by linking theory to measurable outcomes. We welcome candidates working in such areas as health, organizational, and political communication, whose research focuses on change through such established approaches as campaigns and message design, digital and social media interventions with analytics-based evaluation, organizational training and group-based change efforts, community-based and participatory strategies, and social policy communication. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research demonstrates meaningful real-world impact and who can provide intellectual leadership in shaping the research profile of a growing science division.

The Department of Communication and Journalism administers BA and BS degrees in communication, media, and journalism, as well as MA and PhD degrees in Communication. We have over 40 faculty members, more than 35 graduate students, and approximately 1,600 undergraduates. The department is organized into three broad research and curricular divisions: Communication & Media Science, Humanities & Critical/Cultural Studies, and Journalism & Media Practices. Our Humanities & Critical/Cultural Studies division includes a large research and instructional faculty, providing robust coverage across rhetorical and critical/cultural traditions. The Journalism & Media Practices division has recently expanded through the addition of professional journalism faculty and is targeted for continued growth through both professional and research hires. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

•       Ph.D. in Communication or a related field.

•       Demonstrated record of research excellence and publication in high-impact journals.

•       Strong potential for or record of extramural support.

Preferred Qualifications

•       Record of interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
