We welcome applicants whose scholarship bridges research and practice in the field of positive youth development, particularly those applying research to intervention, prevention, and promotion programs; informing governmental and organizational policies; and advancing community and civic engagement. Areas of scholarly interest may include but are not limited to the mental and physical health of youth and families across local, state, national, and global contexts; pathways, barriers, and opportunities for well-being in rural and urban communities; managing and marketing youth-serving organizations; and the social, cultural, and structural factors shaping developmental outcomes. Importantly, we seek a scholar whose work centers on strength-based approaches to engage youth, families, and communities around critical issues of youth and youth-serving organizations.

Serious consideration will be given to applicants with experience in non-profit youth organizations; youth organizations such as 4-H Extension and the National FFA Organization; youth engagement in rural settings; youth camps and training programs; and Youth/Adult partnerships. Furthermore, the applicant should be familiar with the Land Grant Mission, established by the Morrill Act of 1862.

The AYD program (housed in ALEC) currently serves approximately 60 undergraduate minors and 30 graduate students in its Master of Applied Youth Development program. Current faculty members engage in research and outreach that directly inform practice and address the needs and strengths of children, adolescents, families, and policymakers to promote overall health and well-being. Program faculty place a high value on collaboration within the program and across disciplines in the department, college, and university.

The Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications is housed in the heart of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
