Description

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine at Texas A&M University seeks to fill one (1) academic professional track (non-tenure) position for a full-time, 11-month appointment with an anticipated start date in the spring of 2026.  Applications will be accepted at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor, commensurate with qualifications. The individual holding this faculty position will also serve as the Associate Department Head for Education and the Psychiatry Residency Program Director.  This position will create departmental synergy and enhance departmental teaching by consolidating organizational oversight and align the department's Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) goals with the department and college's broader educational mission.

The position will be responsible for integrating the UME and GME curriculum, ensuring that students wishing to pursue psychiatry as a clinical profession have the foundation of knowledge necessary to seamlessly transition into graduate training. The incumbent will also identify opportunities for curricular innovation, resolve any identified curricular deficiencies, and promote a system of continuous quality improvement and accreditation readiness within the department's educational programs.

In the combined role of Associate Department Head for Education and Psychiatry Residency Program Director, the individual will also create a robust teaching culture through the implementation of consistent evaluation processes and feedback mechanisms for faculty and learners. The incumbent will also lead the enhancement and expansion of our psychiatry residency program, guiding and directing a team of principal faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, and residents.

This role helps the department further develop its educational programs in a fiscally responsible manner while filling critical positions necessary to advance our college's mission.

Qualifications

Required:

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree (e.g. MBBS or MBChB);
  • Current certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology;
  • Minimum three years of administrative and/or educational experience;
  • Unrestricted Texas medical license or be eligible to obtain such

Preferred:

  • Prior leadership experience in Graduate or Undergraduate Medical Education (UME course or clerkship director, residency director, or associate/assistant director);
  • Documented record of scholarship and/or research activity in the behavioral sciences and/or medical education;
  • Documented record of faculty mentorship; documented record of departmental or organizational leadership positions held.
