Description

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications from outstanding candidates for the position of Professor (tenured) and Department Head of English at Texas A&M University. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment which includes two months of summer funding and an administrative stipend.  The anticipated start date for the position is Aug 1, 2026, or as otherwise negotiated.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda, contribute to the teaching mission of the department and fulfill service duties at the department, university, and disciplinary level. As department head, the successful candidate will have full administrative responsibility for the academic programs in the department. 

Texas A&M’s Department of English has 38 tenure-line faculty members and 25 instructional faculty. The Department has an undergraduate major and minor; minors in health humanities, professional writing, and science fiction studies; as well as M.A. and Ph.D. programs. There are 320 majors and 230 minors in English, and 66 PhD students currently enrolled. We boast internationally renowned faculty in numerous fields, many of whom contribute through both research and teaching to the College of Arts and Sciences’ interdisciplinary programs. The Department also is home to the New Variorum Shakespeare. As a department in the recently formed College of Arts of Sciences at Texas A&M, we have been in a period of significant growth, with 9 new hires in the last two years.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. in English or a related field and a record of scholarship and teaching consistent with the level of Professor at a major research university.
