Description

The Department of Primary Care & Rural Medicine in Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine at Texas A&M University, in collaboration with Shannon Health System, invites applications for one (1) full-time Academic Professional Track (non-tenure) position with an 11-month appointment beginning as soon as possible.  Candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor, depending on their qualifications/credentials. The full-time position requires individuals with strong academic, clinical, and leadership acumen to educate and lead the development of the next generation of family medicine physicians.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility will be clinical teaching at the graduate medical education level and professional clinical service, serving as a role model, educator/teaching, and mentor for residents and medical students at the Shannon Family Medicine Residency program in San Angelo, TX.
  • Patient care activities will include outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Participate in scholarly activities in the form of research, grant activities, publishing, and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in service to TAMU and the public, including but not limited to: public education on health promotion and disease prevention; continuing education services; work with community organizations and agencies on health-related matters; advice and consultation with health professionals in the community; collaboration with local, regional, and state public health agencies; and Vashisht College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health, and the Texas A&M University committee service.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • Completed residency 
  • Current license from the Texas Medical Board or eligible for licensure in the state of Texas
  • Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP), or board eligible. 
  • Evidence of sustained professional learning activities consistent with the Maintenance of Certification standards used by ABFM or AOBFP. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: inpatient hospital medicine, inpatient/outpatient pediatrics, and/or obstetrics.
