Description

The Department of Nutrition at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in College Station, Texas continues to embark on an ambitious expansion to become a nationally recognized leader in nutrition sciences. We currently invite applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with 9-month appointment. The current department has active research programs in obesity, diabetes, cancer stem cell biology, cancer metabolism, maternal and women’s health nutrition, inflamm-aging and evidence-based practice and guidelines. To meet the needs of the emerging fields of evidence-based nutrition, precision nutrition and clinical practice and policy, the department has an interest in building on its strengths in expanding its applied human nutrition research. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise that complements/synergizes with the strengths of the department, with particular interest areas shown below and available at: https://nutrition.tamu.edu.

    • Controlled clinical and community-based trials
    • Methods in dietary intake assessment
    • Nutrition and chronic disease prevention (e.g. humans with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome)
    • Evidence synthesis methods, dissemination and implementation
    • Micronutrients and global health
    • Nutritional disparities
    • Food systems and policies
    • Diet and the microbiome
    • Nutrition and cancer prevention 

Candidates will be expected to: 1) develop and maintain competitive extramurally funded research programs; 2) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition; 3) contribute to the academic service mission of the department and university.

About the Department: The Department of Nutrition and Texas A&M University welcomes and encourages candidates who can to contribute to a robust research, education and service environment.  Texas A&M University has a variety of programs and networks that support both professional and personal success of its faculty. 

Academic Programs.  The Department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees within the disciplines of Nutrition. Our programs prepare future leaders for academic, industry or government positions through rigorous didactic programs, internships, and experiential learning activities.

Research.  The Department’s faculty lead in the discovery of new knowledge, develop innovative technologies, and form strategic alliances that provide high quality nutrition, promote health and quality of life, and prevent chronic diseases. The current research faculty in the department are well-funded by various competitive national grants.

Extension.  The Department provides food safety and nutrition education outreach to underserved-populations and the general public in Texas to improve health and well-being, and to reduce the risk of nutrition related diseases.

About the University: Texas A&M University, the only institution in the state to hold Land, Sea and Space Grant status, is a Tier I research university. Enrollment at TAMU is approximately 71,000 students, of which 15,000 are graduate and professional students; the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences includes 15 departments and over 300 faculty.

About the Community: The University is located in College Station, which combined with the twin city of Bryan, forms a metropolitan community of approximately 275,000 people with high-quality amenities and a low cost of living.  In addition to excellent health, education, and recreational services, the community affords a rich variety of cultural activities typical of a major university environment, including sports, museums, music, art and theatre. The College Station-Bryan area is also centrally located between Texas’ major metro areas including Houston, Dallas-Ft Worth, Austin, and San Antonio.

Professional EnvironmentThe Department of Nutrition was established in 2020 as part of a strategic restructuring of expertise to facilitate programmatic growth in key areas within Texas A&M University (TAMU). A number of Centers, Institutes and large interdisciplinary programs provide specialized core facilities and access to clinical populations. These resources include the NIEHS Center for Environmental Health Research, Texas A&M Institute for Genome Sciences and Society, Texas A&M Institute for Genomic Medicine, Center for Biological Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Mass Spectrometry Collaborative Core, Texas A&M Institute for Data Sciences, Texas A&M High Performance Research Computing Center, DeBakey Heart Institute, among others.

Qualifications

Qualifications:  Requirements include a Ph.D. in nutrition, public health, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, genetics, or other related fields. The potential for research productivity and grantsmanship should be apparent in the application. Preference will be given to individuals with postdoctoral experience, demonstrated expertise, and a desire to participate in multidisciplinary research programs.
