The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS), Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor position in small animal primary care medicine on an 11-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.
The Primary Care Service hosts a mandatory 4-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care. This includes medicine, basic dentistry, and surgery with the goal of exposing senior veterinary students to a high-quality general practice environment. The majority of the caseload is canine and feline, but interest or board certification in companion animal exotic medicine will be considered. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. The successful candidate will join a team of primary care clinicians and technicians and has the opportunity to interact with over 50 faculty members in the small animal hospital, 47 interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department, and approximately 150 senior veterinary students. The time commitment will be approximately 75% to clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital. Time not assigned to clinical instruction and patient care on clinical rotations will be devoted to classroom / laboratory teaching (10%), scholarship (5%), and service (10%). Faculty are expected to uphold the VMBS Code of Professional Conduct.
The Primary Care Service is staffed with a team of four full-time clinicians, one part-time clinician, and seven technicians. The Primary Care Service utilizes general VMTH resources including digital radiography suites equipped with PACS image storage, Mach7 and OrthoviewVet templating software; and a 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, and helical tomotherapy unit onsite. The hospital maintains Mimics and Echopixel licenses for three-dimensional reconstruction, with easy access to 3D printers. The VMTH also has utilized the following items for the diagnosis and treatment of exotic companion animal disorders, including: a Storz endoscopy tower with rigid endoscopes, Abaxis vetscan vs2 analyzer, 8 general incubators, and 1 incubator with oxygen capabilities for exotic companion animal species. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the small animal hospital, and 50 interns and residents from both medical and surgical services in the department.
