The Department of Primary Care & Rural Medicine, School of Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) Program Director of an Internal Medicine Residency to serve as the founding leader of a newly-developed residency program within the Shannon Health System in San Angelo, TX. This position ia an 11-month academic appointment, renewable annually with an anticipated start date of as soon as possible in the fall of 2023. Applicants will be considered for the faculty rank of Clinical Assistant, Associate or full Professor depending on qualifications. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our mutual commitment to enhance the health and wellbeing of Texans, particularly those in San Angelo and the Concho Valley. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of educational and clinical leadership to the position. As program director of the Shannon Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency, the incumbent will have the responsibility, authority, and accountabilty for the administration and operation of the residency program, including its clinical, educational, and scholarly components. The program director will manage and oversee all aspects of the program to include resident recruitment and selection, curricular design and delivery, supervision, evaluation and promotion of residents, and education in the contect of patient care.
The qualified candidate must be a role model for professionalism. He/she will design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the needs of the San Angelo community and the mission and values of Shannon Medical Center and Texas A&M University. The program director will ensure the creation and sustainment of a high-quality clinical learning environment.
The program director’s primary academic responsibility will be the education and teaching of internal medicine residents and medical students. As an ABIM/ABOIM certified core faculty member of an internal medicine residency, the program director will be required to educate students and residents within both bedside and didactic classroom settings.
The program director’s secondary academic responsibility will be in the area of service, serving as a role model for future physicians while maintaining an active inpatient and/or outpatient clinical practice.
Lastly, the program director will be required to produce two scholarly projects on average over five years.
The program director will lead and manage a team of core and non-core faculty, allied health professionals, and administrators engaged in the delivery of clinical care and clinical teaching within the residency program.
