The Department of Primary Care & Rural Medicine, DeTar Healthcare System Family Medicine Residency Program in affiliation with the School of Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) full-time Academic Professional Track (non-tenure) position with an 11-month academic appointment beginning January 1, 2024.  Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor depending on qualifications.  The responsibilities for the successful candidate include, but are not limited to: teach and train resident physicians and medical students (when applicable) in family medicine; precept outpatient obstetrics, pediatrics including newborns, adult patients including gynecologic and geriatric cases; manage inpatient pediatric service and inpatient adult service with ICU (24-hour pulmonary/cardiology/nephrology/surgery backup available); provide evidence-based, cost-effective, high quality care for patients without sacrificing patient or learner safety; provide training for future family physicians to deliver quality health services of diverse cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds; night and weekend call coverage; coverage of inpatient hospital services with faculty rotation; and scholarly activity in the form of publication, education process, research, etc. that will be a metric of academic appointment.

The DeTar Healthcare System Family Medicine Residency Program trains residents for a broad scope of practices that prepare them to practice in urban, suburban, and rural settings, or to consider a career in academic family medicine. The area is a city of about 70,000 population with extensive surrounding rural areas yet only 2 hours from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have an M.D., D.O. degree or equivalent professional degree and the following:

1) residency trained; 2) current license from Texas Medical Board or eligible for licensure in the state of Texas; 3) Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP).   

Preferred Qualifications

Job Experience in one or more of the following areas:

1) able to precept outpatient obstetrics, pediatrics including newborns, adult patients including gynecologic and geriatric cases; 2) able to manage inpatient pediatric service and inpatient adult service with ICU (24-hour pulmonary/cardiology/nephrology/surgery backup available).
