Description

The School of Engineering Medicine at Texas A&M University is seeking a collaborative and inspirational leader to serve as the Executive Associate Dean with an anticipated start date in Spring 2024. This position is for a full-time tenure review upon hire appointment as a full professor. This position is primarily administrative but as a tenured faculty at Texas A&M University, the candidate is expected to make significant contributions in the areas of scholarly research/creative work, teaching, and service.

ENMED is the School of Engineering Medicine’s innovative medical education program, developed in collaboration with Texas A&M College of Medicine, Texas A&M College of Engineering and Houston Methodist Hospital.  ENMED graduates receive a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Engineering in four years.  This first-in-the-nation program blends experiential learning in engineering innovation with medical school training to create a type of healthcare professional, a “physicianeer” with the goal of transforming health care.  ENMED is located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center.

This position will have the opportunity to help direct an overall strategic vision which will pave the School’s academic, research, medical, engineering, and clinical missions.  This individual will be a highly innovative and visionary leader with a drive to revolutionize medical education.  The Executive Associate Dean will work to advance blending medical and engineering education, foster a culture of innovation, and facilitate collaborations with internal, external, and industry partners. The Executive Associate Dean reports to the Dean of School of Engineering Medicine. 

Administrative duties include:

  • Assists the Dean with the School of Engineering Medicines strategic growth plan
  • Works to advance the blending of the Medical and Engineering Education
  • Acts as the School of Engineering Medicine collaborative contact for all academic, research, medical, engineering, and clinical missions
  • Responsible for fostering a culture of innovation of facilitate collaborations with internal, external, and industry partners
  • Continue a successful distinguished research and academic record commensurate with the title of tenured full professor
  • Promotes continued growth of the department in research excellence and graduate education
  • Actively maintains and develops affiliate relationship in concert with the Dean
  • Leads and motivates high standards for continued excellence
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education and Experience –

  • Medical Doctorate (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with Board Certification and clinical practice in their specialty, and/or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a STEM field
  • Demonstrated effective record in a senior leadership level role of an academic institution, health institution or an equally complex organization
  • Teaching and research portfolio commendable of a tenured professor

 

Knowledge and Skills –

  • Show evidence of dynamic leadership, outstanding communication, and administrative skills
  • Ability to recruit and retain the highest quality faculty
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the cross-section between engineering and medical disciplines
  • Have knowledge of and experience with aspects of medical education and accreditation processes
  • Work collaboratively with internal, external, and industry partners
  • Demonstrate financial and budgetary management skills
  • Be accessible, approachable, authentic, genuine, supportive and transparent with all stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups in a complex, dynamic environment that includes education, research and clinical care
