Texas A&M University School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time tenured, tenure-track, or academic professional track (non-tenure) position with an 11-month academic faculty appointment. Applicants will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor or the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor depending on qualifications. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023 or negotiable.

This position calls for a person who promotes an environment of integrity and collegiality and seeks to build the institutional capacity for growth in innovative predoctoral dental education in a health science professional school within Texas A&M Health, at Texas A&M University, a research-intensive flagship university. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is expected to advance and raise the national reputation in teaching excellence for the predoctoral, as well as graduate and advanced education programs, as well as assist in the advancement of new educational projects, with a focus on an integrated curriculum; there is oversight of the baccalaureate dental hygiene program in close collaboration with the faculty. This person will have a faculty appointment in an academic department which includes time allocation in teaching, research, and service, with a majority allocation for the administrative position. The administrative responsibilities will include managing a group of highly skilled professional staff and faculty to create a cohesive vision and continue to strengthen the educational foundation in accordance and in fulfillment of the Commission on Dental Accreditation standards.  Administrative duties will also include being responsible for but not limited to management of curriculum development, implementing educational initiatives, supporting faculty, and developing faculty to improve assessment and advance the learning environment. The expectation is to have skills to manage multiple priorities that impact the educational environment for patient care within the onsite outpatient clinics as well as external outpatient clinic sites throughout the North Texas region, particularly in the DFW metroplex or other Texas A&M Health facilities.  The position works closely with associate deans at the executive leadership level and reports directly to the Dean of Texas A&M University School of Dentistry.

Qualifications

The applicant must have either a master's degree in a relevant education area, or (DDS or DMD) from a CODA-accredited dental program, or (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in a relevant education area, and/or commensurate with qualifications and experience of the applicant in an academic dental institution. Preference will be given to applicants with a doctoral degree.

In addition, the candidate should have experience working collaboratively among large groups of faculty and/or professional staff responsible for excellence in a health profession education institution, or equivalent academic/federal qualifications and documented evidence of experience and/or scholarship in education . If applicable, the candidate must be able to obtain a dental license in the State of Texas.

Candidates should have a demonstrable record of excellence in leadership and program management, teaching, service, scholarship, and research accomplishments and if applicable excellence in patient care.
