Description

The School of Engineering Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, 11-month academic professional track (non-tenure) appointment to join a multi-disciplinary teaching team delivering quality instruction in the anatomical sciences to medical students. The position is open at the Instructional Assistant Professor, Associate Instructional Professor, or Instructional Professor, commesurate with qualifications. Start date Spring 2025.

EnMed is the School of Engineering Medicine’s innovative medical education program, developed in a partnership with the Texas A&M College of Engineering, Texas A&M College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist Hospital, to educate “physicianeers,” a new kind of physician who will create transformational technology to solve health care’s greatest challenges. The EnMed medical education program offers a blended engineering and medicine curriculum with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. EnMed is the nation’s only program that allows graduates to receive both the Master of Engineering and Doctor of Medicine degrees in four years. ENMED is located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center (TMC).

ENMED’s pre-clerkship curriculum utilizes evidence-based and student-centered strategies such as active learning, flipped-classroom, case-based and team-based learning.  Candidates will participate in developing and delivering the pre-clerkship curriculum and working with other members of the ENMED faculty to integrate medical training with instruction in applying engineering principles toward advancing medical innovation and improving clinical medicine. Experience in development and/or oversight of a pre-clinical medical school curriculum, with preference for a flipped-classroom, active-learning approach, such as case and/or team-based learning, is preferred. In addition to instructional responsibilities, candidates will be expected to contribute to curricular development and development of innovative instructional methods, and fostering collaboration among the three ENMED partners. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to education that is synergistically aligned with the goals of ENMED.

Qualifications

Applicants considered must have experience teaching in the healthcare related curriculum.  Candidates must possess either a medical degree or a doctorate in a closely related discipline.  Specific expertise is required in gross anatomy including neuroanatomy and embryology with demonstrated ability to teach cadaveric lab courses. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience and/or expertise in one or more other core pre-clerkship curricular topics, including: integrative physiology, histology, metabolism/gastrointestinal/nutrition, biostatistics, and integument/musculoskeletal. An engineering background is a plus, but not required.
