Texas A&M University Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy invites applications for one academic professional track (non-tenure) full-time or one tenured (tenure review upon hire) full-time faculty position to serve as the Department Head of Pharmacy Practice. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Instructional Professor or Professor. Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience. This position is located in Kingsville, Texas or College Station, Texas.
The college and this growing department of about 30 faculty members is located on the campuses of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M University in College Station and at other strategic hubs including Houston, Temple, Round Rock, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley. The Department Head of Pharmacy Practice will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, mentorship, and administrative oversight to faculty and staff in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The successful candidate will be involved in engaging faculty teaching in an integrated curriculum and will be responsible for ensuring that department members create and sustain excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, patient care, pharmacy practice, and institutional service. Additionally, s/he will help develop, manage, and oversee faculty practice plans, clinical research plans and will engage in interprofessional activities across the institution’s other colleges/schools and with external organizations. As a senior level faculty member, the Department Head will mentor junior level faculty members and will foster opportunities for collaboration with faculty members from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Department Head provides recommendations on continued employment, promotion and tenure, and renewal of contracts for the department’s faculty.
Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence; recruiting and retaining faculty and staff; setting goals with faculty members in the form of planned annual activity and faculty development; continuous performance management and yearly performance evaluation; and representing the department to the university, community, and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will leverage the department’s resources, including the vibrant and committed faculty, to advance the mission, vision, and goals of the department and the college. The Department Head with develop and deliver faculty development in active learning techniques, course management skills, and the use of technology for course improvement. This position reports directly to the Dean and is a member of the College’s Executive Committee and Administrative Leadership Team.
