Clinical Assistant Professor in Research, Measurement, & Statistics

The Department of Educational Psychology’s (EPSY) Division of Research, Measurement, and Statistics (RMS) is seeking applications for a clinical assistant professor with expertise in teaching quantitative statistics and related RMS coursework in both face-to-face and online formats. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology or a related field with a clear record of quantitative coursework are encouraged to apply.

The mission of EPSY’s RMS Division is to deliver engaging courses that reflect the latest advancements in RMS applications.  We are committed to serving students in a variety of social science majors including those who may have limited statistical backgrounds.  Our RMS coursework prepares students to understand, interpret, and apply statistical and research concepts in a variety of contexts. At the graduate level, RMS coursework prepares students with necessary statistical and computational knowledge and skills to pursue careers that require knowledge in applied and theoretical areas of statistics. The RMS Division also serves students in other majors across the college, cultivating foundational statistical literacy so that students become informed and critical consumers of statistical information.

Preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of exemplary teaching that reflects best practices for delivering instruction to a diverse range of students. A record of successful online teaching at the college level and prior research experiences are also highly valued.

Expectations

The position requires a candidate who can

  1. Effectively employ innovative teaching strategies to communicate introductory/foundational statistics content to students with varying academic backgrounds
  2. Discern and deliver evidence-based instruction to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that enable students apply statistical concepts to real-life educational settings.
  3. Provide effective college teaching mentorship via an established teaching apprentice program for RMS doctoral students.

Appointment

This is a nine-month professional-track appointment with the opportunity to begin as early as spring semester of 2020.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with faculty rank and qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Educational Psychology or related field with a clear record of quantitative coursework
  • At least prior year of university teaching experience as an independent instructor
  • Experience designing and successfully teaching online courses at the college level
  • Commitment to collegiality and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching traditional (face-to-face) and online quantitative research courses
  • Evidence of exemplary college teaching skills including favorable student and peer evaluations
  • Experience mentoring and supervising doctoral students in college teaching
