The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University is delighted to announce the expansion of our small animal Emergency & Critical Care service.  We are seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track assistant, associate, or full professor in small animal emergency and critical care (ECC) to join our team on an 11-month appointment.

The successful candidate will devote up to 70% of his or her time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The remaining assigned effort will consist of academic citizenship (10%), scholarship (10%) and classroom/laboratory teaching (10%). Clinical duties will be shared among all ECC faculty and a team of interns and residents. The Emergency Service admits over 7,500 cases per year with the ECC clinicians additionally consulting on, and caring for, some 2,000 ICU cases. Active supervision of interns and residents, instruction of clinical-year students, and primary case supervision is expected. Successful candidates will also participate in and contribute to weekly resident boards review and journal clubs.

Numerous opportunities for collaborative research exist throughout the college and the university. The 3,000 square foot Intensive Care Unit is state-of-the-art and is staffed with talented technicians. The teaching hospital has competent personnel and modern technology including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, centralized ECG monitoring, tomotherapy, cell saver (autotransfusion) technology, stereotactic brain and nasal biopsy, imaging (3T MRI, 40-slice CT), color-flow Doppler ultrasonography and echocardiography, video endoscopy, nuclear imaging, a multidisciplinary interventional radiology service, and two in-house pharmacists with compounding capability. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the small animal hospital, and nearly 200 faculty within the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. There is also an active group of house officers that includes more than 30 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department.

Each applicant must have a DVM degree (or equivalent) and must be a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or eligible to sit for the exam to become board-certified. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for a regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
